Mission Statement
At Metamorphosis, Inc., we develop, evaluate, and disseminate programs that foster youth and young adults’ ethical, social, and intellectual growth and enlightenment, while nurturing their capacity to think skillfully and critically. We also strive to deepen their commitment to pro-social values such as kindness, helpfulness, personal responsibility, and respect for others–qualities we believe are essential to leading humane and productive lives in a democratic society, based on a Christian foundation.
Metamorphosis, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that is devoted to helping youth and young adults with their individual growth and establishment, anchoring to a firm base, respectively. It is aimed at ‘High at Risk” youth and will endeavor to resolve problems in the realm of substance abuse and behavior disorders for problem school children and juvenile delinquents. To maximize the efforts, knowing that these youth are not the only youth who are exposed to negative influences in their environments, their friends will be included to participate in our programming also. This will ensure that many youth will benefit from our proposed activities.
The youth in question are exposed to a variety of negative stimuli, including violence, substance abuse, and gang activities to name a few. Therefore, it is not common for these youth to be exposed to a high degree of drug and alcohol abuse usage; substances that could dramatically impair their health and, in the case of alcohol, do cause improper behavior. These are the things that we will address in order to help our youth to develop into responsible, contributing citizens.
The answer and/or solution to the question of what to do about our troubled youth is direction. Children of today lack the direction, we feel, that will lead them to wholesome, productive lives. They are exposed to too much, too fast, without being given the true values of things. Of course, this should come from the home. Still, far too many homes have dysfunctional heads resulting from divorces, single-parent responsibilities, unemployment, poverty, substance abuse, lack of parenting skills, and illiteracy to mention the major contributing factors causing dysfunction. The children of these homes need a strong role model as a mentor to guide them and give them the advice and understanding that they need to mature into adulthood. If this is lacking, the adolescent may stray in the wrong direction, trying different things as their peers may suggest, gateway drugs being one.
Let’s face it, our youth are growing up in an increasingly changing and uncertain world of alienation and turmoil, cited by the United Way Tarrant County study, and valid for many youth putting all youth at risk.
Our program, comprised of many talented individuals who are well versed in their professional fields, is aware of the needs of all youth, their feeling of alienation, their lack of basic skills, poor self-esteem, limited or no financial resources, exposure to substance abuse, and/or emotional problems and we have devised a comprehensive program to meet their needs. Comprehensive because we will utilize one-on-one counseling, group counseling, family counseling with parenting workshops, many special activities, and job training/career development. Along with a drop-out component, and of course a very strong substance abuse intervention. prevention, and education component; a multifaceted approach.
This program will meet the needs of our youth and be successful in instilling good sound attitudes and values in our participants, it will keep them substance abuse free, give them job skills and job experience plus offer special activities which all are conducive to their complete growth and maturity, enhancing greatly their chances of being very productive and contributing members of our society.
We have designed this program with expansion into other cities in mind. As this program proves its worth, it will be set up in cities where there is a need for such a program. We feel that many youth can profit from our expertise and experience, they also will mature into very productive and contributing members of our society once they complete our program.
The young adult component will offer young adults a chance to establish a solid base for their lives by offering them a chance to continue their education if they choose to do so, those who hadn’t started in that direction before they entered our program. It will also provide job training and placement so that they will have a good financial base, which is conducive to a successful life. Our program will also provide life skill training, especially in the realm of building healthy relationships, family, and marital. A strong substance abuse program, both intervention, and prevention we will also implement coupled with a reentry and rehab program for ex-offenders with substance addiction.
